These water filters are installed at the point of entry (POE) ,where the water enters the house. These filters will filter the entire residence, including the dishwashers, toilets, showers and in ground lawn sprinklers. They are sized by how many gallons per minute (GPM) a residence requires, at peak usage.

Several factors to keep in mind:
- Don't ever reduce the size of the water main.
- If your house has a 3/4" main, buy at least a 3/4" filter.
- If your house has a 1" main, do not buy a 3/4" filter. it will greatly restrict the flow. But a 1-1/2" filter and reduce the connections.
- All these units restrict the water pressure to some degree (usually about 5psi, when clean).
- We always recommend over-sizing the filter. The bigger the better. This will reduce the initial pressure loss and reduce the time between service.
- You may combine 2 filters in parallel, to have even better performance.
- We highly recommend installation of a plumbing bypass. This was the filter can be serviced, without interrupting the water supply to the house.
- It is a good idea to install pressure gauges before and after the filter, so you can monitor pressure loss.
- Point of entry filters do not soften the water, deal with pH, ferrous iron, manganese or hydrogen sulfide. you may still need to purchase additional water conditioning equipment to solve your individual water problem.
- Point of entry filters will not filter the water to drinking water standards. You should install an under the counter drinking water carbon filter or reverse osmosis unit, in addition to the POE filter.
